When I peruse menus I love finding sweet treats for brunch. When someone mentioned that Taqueria 27 had an interesting item on their brunch menu I checked it out right away.
Everyone talks about how fantastic the tacos and general savory items are at Taqueria 27 but I think the brunch menu is just as exciting. In particular, Cinnamon Horchata Pan Dulce’. It is their version of the classic French Toast. It is served with a jalapeño jelly and agave-maple syrup.
The slices are large, a good serving size for one or if you had sides, you could easily share it. The bread, if the description is anything to go by, is pan dulce, a nice sweet bread. The texture is perfect, soft on the inside with a nice caramelized crust. The smell of cinnamon was heavenly and hits you when they place the plate on the table.
I ate every bit of it and even used all the jalapeño jelly. The color of the jelly seems a little unnatural but the peppery taste and bit of heat was a fun addition to the cinnamon sweetness of the bread. Brunch is only served Saturday and Sunday from 11-3. You can check out the rest of the brunch menu here.
